I’ve been keeping some of my journal entries private and not for viewing on this blog for a while. This little ditty is from 2005, and I have lots of journal entries from 2005 that really are too private to share. But, I have a feeling, I’ll be releasing more of them slowly but surely, one at a time in the next couple of years.

My Brain On Blog
Okay, you are in my brain now. It’s very crowded and often crazy. It’s sort of looks like the war room in Stanley Kubrick’s Dr. Stranglove, black and white, with a round table and numerous men AND WOMEN seated in a circle, but their is no president and they are always having an intense discussion. Today is no different.
A seriously angry speaker starts the scene off…one sentence blurring into the next…
I don’t know what to tell Americans. I want to say, “Your way of life as you have known it is over. That’s all over now, you better get used to it. No more thinking you are the best because you have the biggest guns and bombs, you can blow us all to hell and where exactly will that leave you? You better understand that you pretty much ruined it for yourself, doesn’t matter how many lives you took with you, you’re done. You’re fucking done.”
Then she sits down, allowing a more conscious voice to come forward.
But, that would be wrong, right? I’m not allowed to voice my anger and displeasure at them. I’m supposed to be sweet, like candy. Sorry, it’s just not me. And, until the rest of the world is ready to change, neither will I.
Another, more focused individual tries to regain control with a strong voice and hand motions.
We were trying to answer a question posed by the BBC (remember, this is from 2005) about the seemingly impossible task of modernizing the Islamic faith, or should it be, rediscovering the west’s moral standards?
Can Islam be democratic? (Now, I know what they were really getting at. Talking to all those stuffy English folks about what they didn’t understand. When the reality was, Islam didn’t need democracy. Doesn’t need it now, didn’t need it then. It needed equal representation, but it wasn’t getting that. Not here at the BBC anyway.)
Can a democratic society agree on a standard of moral conduct? (HA! OMG!)
The logical answer to both of those questions is no. (I was having TVP premonitions in 2005) Any belief that is dictated from a scripture should then be considered subject to interpretation and therefore invalid as ever being a concrete law. Why is Islam any more difficult to modernize than Catholicism? or Hinduism? By nature, the act of practicing a religion is actually democratic because any free soul can choose to do that (or not). Vote yes or no, internally… If he does not believe in the scriptures, of one book or another, the same way other followers do, he is neither right nor wrong, and if he chooses not to seek that religion at all or fall head over heels for it because it does something for him, it is essentially his or her choice, internally. That is a personal choice. Get it? A little known fact, however is, simply being Islamic doesn’t by nature make one a terrorist or a militant minded individual, that particular act has to be narrowed down to a few select individuals who are choosing upon their own free will as well to use violence as a way of sending a message.
Is violence a good communication device?
Cowboy (what’s he doing here?)
You bet it is. The better you are at it, the more influence you have. There isn’t a creature on earth that doesn’t understand this factor.
Johnny Naive (looks like a cow poke)
But all the cartoons end with the passive guys always winning in the end and the mean and nasty guys always getting devoured into a endless pit of death and torture for their injustices. Doesn’t it always work out that way Doc?
Scientist
I’m afraid not Johnny. Unfortunately it’s all a matter of public opinion and generally, public opinion is often wrong.
Let’s ask how their recruiters are influencing a suicide bomber to his destiny? And who are they and are they using scripture or money to do their coercing?
Are the words and scriptures of the Qu’ran being used to recruit extremists to their death for a cause and has anybody asked and answered as to what that cause is?
They don’t want western and European countries messing with their cultural rights to exist.
OMG! Who said that?!!! Johnny Naive please SHUT UP!
The General (Patton look-a-like)
I’ll give you three guesses and the first two don’t count.
Miss Democracy (always pretty, half naked, fickle)
And see we, who live in a supposedly democratic society think this is blasphemous, using scriptures to coerce people to kill in the name of God. And, what are the differences between the God of Islam and the God of Catholicism? The God of the US and British Empire vs the God of Islam….
The Scientist is moving the magnetic images on the white board.
Let’s separate the God’s.
War Monger
Yeah, let’s line’em all up and judge them for a change.
Miss Democracy 2005 (in a bathing suit of course, raises her hand)
Anyone want to vote on that?
Have we asked Islam yet, what is wrong with our modern aspirations?
They have answered that our television programming is too sexually oriented. They want to cover and lock woman up and beat them, they can’t do that with a women on the set. If she is on the set, she has too much power over him.
They complain that our greed is too great, yet they have the one resource that has everyone clinging from their fingertips to afford. The oil rich community (guess who?) continually extracts profits from this ever ready resource while literally doing nothing. Their funding flows like a river from up out of the earth. We work and knead our dough.
Modernization says yes to freedoms. Freedoms that sometimes the conservatives don’t like, like freedom of religion and freedom of speech. Legalized abortion, pro choice. Freedom offers choices which make it hard to resist making a moral mistake sometimes, like carrying a gun and killing someone in a moment of passion.
We look at behavior as either moral and or legal, is it or isn’t it? What about scientific? We have allowed our laws to be formed by popular vote, swaying with the winds of influence from special interest groups running campaign ads, emotions spurred by sensationalized incidents and personal experience with crime. What makes us angry? We all know the basics, when someone hurts us, we get angry, we want something done about it. Extremists are not at all different, they are angry and they want something done about it, but the party needed to act is not listening.
Individual perspectives make this crime a crime extremists believe is necessary to communicate with Western politics. Operating violently, although ineffectively as it is seen to the oppressors as more fuel to the fire, is also a permanent statement to the world. But the message is getting lost.
Someone with his head in the books and a brown bagged lunch
Isn’t that a method of violence in another sense? The oppressors hiding their violence behind another group’s violence? Any religious practice along with Islamic practice is not mandatory to the mind for anyone, so neither is extremism and by deciding to force harm on someone due to any religious law that exists on that land, to communicate a message, is of their belief at the time. If the majority calls for an end to violent practices raised by religious laws, then all would have to oblige. All may not be willing to give up their religious fervor, if needed.
A good question then might be, how far should the law go to allow personal human abuse upon another based on the emotional rage?
Everyone at the table turns and stares. A Voice from a virtually silent source during this meeting, finally speaks. “Where does the rage come from? What is causing the rage?”
Have you forgotten about forgiveness? Doesn’t one of those God’s insist upon that?
Currently certain states in the US do not have any laws that permit justifiable homicide. That’s only after the fact. If it is later determined in a trial that your crime of homicide or other violent crime was justifiable, then there could be an acquittal. But we have no apparent tolerance for anyone who believes he or she has the right to take the law into our own hands.
The way we govern ourselves as people making our own decisions for ourselves is the type of freedom we rely on, it’s when we try to make decisions for others that violence and retaliation begin to ensue, no matter what land you stand on.
The General
Violence is a cop out, but I wasn’t staying anyway.
Miss Democracy starts screaming excitedly…”My underwear has arrived!!!!”
The two gay guys shake their heads and turn away, for a private ruling. “Wow, I wonder if she’ll change in front of us now, or in private, later.”
I’m really the only one in the room…
Oh, I thought I was so lonely I might go out of my mind and then all of a sudden there were three other people in my house and I thought I was waking up from a dream and this wasn’t my house, well at least I didn’t recognize it. It was a new house, I had just moved in. I’ve had this feeling before, after my mother made us move again for the upteenth time, and I woke up and didn’t know where the hell I was. It was sort of scary. That was around the time I accidentally brushed my teeth with brill cream and saw a giant Easter bunny in the living room.
“My underwear has arrived!!!”
She said that before.
A group of Mature Ladies
I think, in general, the United States has some very morally conscious minds at work there. I think, in general we all inherently know the difference between right and wrong. We are just not getting the facts straight about what we are doing that is wrong, and what others might be doing that is right.
Oh give me a break, I think that men are really more focused on what they can get away with than obeying any law. And furthermore, men make their own laws, so they are obviously biased.
I think we see a lot of contradiction and hypocrisy on the stage and in the sidelines. I think we lose enthusiasm when we witness such lawlessness. It turns us into that creature that says the law is mine to take as I see fit, since it is available.
Do I make any fucking sense at all?
My underwear has arrived!!!
I think therefore I am?
Yes, posting a blog makes it so.
MY UNDERWEAR HAS ARRIVED!!!!
I shrug. “I suppose you want me to apologize for being an asshole? Okay, I apologize for being an asshole. But, I can’t apologize for being human.”
Humans are worse than assholes, they think they can do it all. Assholes at least only do one thing and that’s manage the shit.
